Faceless TikTok Shop: What TikTok's Own Rules Let You Post

You can sell without being on camera. But a video of product photos is the one faceless format TikTok tells you not to post.

By the Next5 team · October 29, 2026 · 9 min read

Short answer

You can sell on TikTok Shop without showing your face, but the format decides whether it holds up. TikTok's video guidance asks you to feature your face and the physical product, and names still, looping or scrolling images through a whole video as something not to do. Shoppable photo carousels have their own guidance, and it never asks for a face.

You have products, you have a shop, and no interest in talking to a camera. Most blog answers say the same thing: go faceless, make a slideshow of your product photos. TikTok's own seller documentation is more specific, and it is worth 5 minutes before you build an account on the wrong format.

The short answer, and the catch

Nothing in TikTok Shop's creator requirements says you must appear on camera. To be an affiliate creator you must be at least 18, based in the United States, and have at least 1,000 followers. A face is not on that list. Identity verification does ask for a real-time ID and selfie, but that is a one-time check on you, not on your content.

The catch sits in a different document: a TikTok Shop Academy page called Requirements for High-Quality Videos and LIVEs. The video half of it is the part almost nobody quotes.

What the video guidance actually says

Four lines from the video section, word for word:

  • "Create content that is recorded in a real-world environment, add some camera movement, and feature people to make it interesting."
  • "Include engaging and dynamic visuals, ensuring they feature your face and the physical product."
  • "Aim for at least 3 seconds of dynamic content without any still images or looping visuals"
  • Prohibited: "Do not use still, looping, or scrolling images through the entire video without featuring your face and the physical product."

Read that last line closely, because the condition at the end changes what it bans. What TikTok names as prohibited is a video that is still, looping or scrolling images from start to finish with no face and no physical product. That is exactly the format the faceless advice tells you to make: product photos on a loop with text on top.

A video where your hands turn the product over, or the camera moves around it, is not a video of still images, so the ban does not reach it. You are still short of the line asking for your face, which is phrased as an instruction on a page called Requirements. Treat it as the standard TikTok measures you against.

The same page lists the enforcement actions: removing content, removing access to features, restricting commission earnings, and restricting or removing your creator account.

The photo carousel is the faceless format TikTok writes guidance for

Shoppable carousels are a separate format with their own TikTok Shop Academy page, and that page says nothing about a face. It is the cleanest answer for a seller who will not film themselves. What it asks for:

  • At least 2 images. TikTok recommends 5 to 7 clear, consistent photos.
  • A 9:16 aspect ratio, which fills the screen and matches how shoppers browse.
  • The product filling roughly 40 to 60 percent of the frame.
  • Photos ordered like a short story, so shoppers keep swiping.
  • Text that reinforces benefits, 1 to 3 selling points.
  • No copyrighted images, no false advertising, no excessive text overlays.

Tagging the products is the step people miss. In the app, add your photos in order, then tap Products, and tap it again for each extra product link in the same post. From a laptop, open Seller Center, go to Content Hub, click Post on TikTok, then Photo Post, and link multiple products, a single product or your whole shop. The step-by-step for TikTok slideshows covers the posting flow.

One note on 40 to 60 percent of the frame: that is a lot of product. A mug sitting small on a big table does not hit it. Shoot closer than feels right.

If you want faceless video, give it movement

Movement is the whole test. What passes and what does not, read against the lines above:

Faceless videoMovement?Verdict
Hands opening, assembling or using the productYes, continuousFits, minus the face
Camera moving slowly around the productYes, camera movementFits, and camera movement is named on the page
Packing an order start to finishYes, in a real-world environmentFits
Before and after, filmed as clipsYesFits
Your 5 product photos with a zoom effect on eachNo, still imagesThe prohibited case: stills throughout, no face
A screen recording of your product pageScrolling imagesSame problem, and LIVEs separately ban product page screenshots

The fix for the bottom two rows is not an effect. It is 3 seconds of the real object moving. Film it once on a table by a window and you can reuse that footage across a dozen posts, because what changes is the first line, not the clip. The 40 hooks you can copy are built for that first line.

The rules that quietly break a faceless post

A video can be fine and still fail to carry a product link. TikTok only lets you link a product to a short video if it was posted in the last 30 days, contains sound or music from the Commercial Music Library only, contains a product that matches the product link, and complies with the TikTok Shop Content Policy.

Music catches people out, because a faceless video leans on audio more than a talking video does. A track from the general catalog can make a good post unlinkable. The article on the Commercial Music Library explains which list you are actually seeing.

You can also link after the fact with the Link Products tool, inside that 30-day window. But you cannot edit existing product links to replace the linked product in a published video, so a link added to the wrong variant stays wrong.

Seller or affiliate: the limits are different

Selling your own products has no follower minimum: official shop creators have no threshold. The numbers below are for the affiliate route, promoting other people's products, which is where most faceless advice online is aimed.

  • Affiliate creators need at least 1,000 followers. Promoting from the product marketplace needs at least 5,000.
  • Under 5,000 followers, you start in the Affiliate Creator Pilot Program: 3 shoppable videos per day and 3 LIVE selling streams per week, for at least 30 calendar days.
  • Extended Pilot Creators, meaning accounts with policy violations or low-quality content patterns, drop to 3 shoppable videos per week and 1 shoppable LIVE.

TikTok names still-image videos as prohibited in one document and cuts posting limits for low-quality content patterns in another.

Your listing photos are judged separately, as a product page rather than as content. The main image needs a resolution above 600 by 600 pixels, TikTok recommends a white background, and it must not contain text, logos, watermarks, borders or graphics covering the product. The Good tier wants 5 or more images of the main product, up to 9. See the guide to selling on TikTok Shop for the setup around them.

Common mistakes

  • Building the account on still-image videos because a blog said carousels and slideshows are the same thing. Different formats, different guidance.
  • Using a LIVE rule to judge a video. The AI voice ban, the 50 percent still-frame limit and the product page screenshot ban are all in the LIVE section.
  • Picking the sound before checking it is in the Commercial Music Library, then finding the post cannot take a link.
  • Posting the listing photo as content. White background and no text by design is the opposite of what a feed post needs.
  • Waiting for 5,000 followers. Selling your own products has no follower minimum.

Do this today

Film 30 seconds of your hands using your best-selling product by a window, with no talking. Cut it into three 3-second clips. That is your dynamic footage for a month of posts, and the piece the faceless advice leaves out.

Faceless is a real option on TikTok Shop. It is not the easy option the search results promise, and the difference is movement. For ideas that never need your face in any business, there is a separate list of faceless TikTok ideas.

Questions

Can you do TikTok Shop without showing your face?+

Yes. Nothing in TikTok Shop's creator requirements says you must appear on camera, and the shoppable carousel guidance never mentions a face. But TikTok's video page does ask you to feature your face and the physical product, so faceless works best as carousels or as video with real movement.

Can you make TikTok Shop videos with just product photos?+

That is the case TikTok names as prohibited: still, looping or scrolling images through the entire video without featuring your face and the physical product. The page asks for at least 3 seconds of dynamic content. Post the photos as a shoppable carousel instead.

Can you add a product link to a TikTok photo post?+

Yes. In the app, add your photos in order and tap Products, tapping again for each extra product. From Seller Center, open Content Hub, click Post on TikTok, then Photo Post, and link multiple products, a single product or your shop.

Can you use an AI voice on a faceless TikTok Shop video?+

TikTok's ban on non-real-time verbal interaction, which it describes as AI-generated voices, audio recordings or radio, sits in the LIVE section of its high-quality page. The video section does not mention AI voices. Check the current page before building a format on it.

Do you need 1,000 followers to sell on TikTok Shop without showing your face?+

Only as an affiliate promoting other people's products. Affiliate creators need at least 1,000 followers, and 5,000 to promote from the product marketplace. Official shop creators, meaning sellers posting their own products, have no minimum follower requirement.

How many shoppable videos can a new affiliate post a day?+

Affiliate creators under 5,000 followers start in the Affiliate Creator Pilot Program: 3 shoppable videos per day and 3 LIVE selling streams per week, for at least 30 calendar days. Creators with violations or low-quality content patterns drop to 3 videos per week and 1 LIVE.

Can you use any music on a TikTok Shop video?+

No. To link a product to a short video, TikTok requires it to be posted in the last 30 days, to contain sound or music from the Commercial Music Library only, to contain a product matching the link, and to comply with the TikTok Shop Content Policy.
