A social media content calendar is a list of what you will post and when. It stops the daily "what do I post today?" panic.

Below is a free 30-day template. It works for any small business. Copy it into a notebook, a spreadsheet or your phone notes.

The 5 post types

The template rotates 5 types of posts. Each type does a different job.

Day 30 is the secret

Look at your 29 posts. Find the one with the most views. Make a new version of it. Doing more of what works is how accounts grow.

How to fill your calendar in under an hour

  1. 1

Write your 10 most asked questions

These become your Tip posts. Your customers already told you what they want to know.

  2. 2

    List 5 mistakes you see

These become your Mistake posts. They get the most views because people hate losing money or time.

  3. 3

    Find 5 photos of results

These become your Proof posts. Before and after photos are gold.

  4. 4

    Drop them into the template

Put one idea on each day. Do not overthink it. A plan you follow beats a perfect plan you never start.

  5. 5

Schedule a week at a time

Make 7 posts in one sitting. Use the TikTok or Instagram scheduler, or a tool.

What to put in each calendar entry

  • Date and app — where and when it goes out.
  • Hook — the first line people see. See TikTok hooks for small businesses.
  • Post type — tip, mistake, proof, story or offer.
  • Ask — what people should do at the end: follow, save, book, buy.
  • Tags — the 2 or 3 that describe this specific post. Your city and trade tags repeat, see how many hashtags to use on TikTok for business.
  • Status — idea, made, approved, posted.

How often should you post?

One post a day is a great goal. If you can only do 3 a week, use days 1 to 30 of the template over 10 weeks. Steady wins. Read the best time to post on TikTok to pick your time slot, or see social media for gyms, social media for hair salons and social media for restaurants for posting plans sized for one trade. Agents can drop a ready-made week into the template with open house social media post ideas. In November and December, swap the filler days for Christmas post ideas built on the real dates and Small Business Saturday post ideas.
